Good aid for where to begin!

This book is updated yearly, but the 2011 version is still helpful for any beginner starting on the path to prepare for college. There is a calendar at the beginning showing you things to do your junior and senior year, by month. There are full chapters explaining various kinds of financial aid, the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) application, scholarships, and keeping track of your paperwork.
Colleges and universities are then listed by state and by school. Each school is listed with it's Federal code #, web address, city, enrollment, selectivity, costs, financial aid picture, closing dates for applications, forms required, and contact address/phone.
I like the fact that you can flip around in the book to compare schools quickly. You can find most of this information on the collegeboard.com web site, but this book is a handy way to keep documents/ checklists in one place by writing and recording information in the book.
Highly recommend this book and we are still using this 2011 version for our second child because much of the information does not change significantly. You can find current changes online once you've narrowed down your search to a few schools.
We also highly recommend Countdown to College: 21 To Do Lists for High School: Step-By-Step Strategies for 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th Graders 2nd Edition.
