The book is an Arminian defense of Libertarian Free Will...

If you're a Reformed (Calvinistic) person looking to gain a better understanding of God's absolute, predetermining Sovereignty, and it's compatibility with human responsibility, this is not the book for you. This book endorses free will in the libertarian sense, and rejects determinism and predestination out of hand. Calvinists are caricatured as "anti free-will churches" (p 104) as the book fails to distinguish compatibilistic freedom (which Calvinists believe in) from libertarian freedom (which Calvinists do not believe in). You see many quotes like this which are, at least in part, misguided and misleading:
"The denial of free will became an integral part of Calvinism. Understandably, there were doubters, and for centuries Calvinist homes resounded to arguments between, on one side, orthodox believers and, on the other side, backsliders who found predestination hard to swallow or who drew from it the conclusion that this is no point in making any effort to be good since our salvations depends uniquely on whether God selects us..."
Calvinists are apparently all fatalistic unorthodox backsliders. The book is full of such straw men and the Bible's plain teaching that "In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will" (Ephesians 1:11) is simply rejected in favor of human autonomy.
