About the Author
Susan Wittig Albert grew up on a farm in Illinois and earned her Ph.D. at the University of California at Berkeley. A former professor of English and a university administrator and vice president, she is the author of the China Bayles Mysteries, the Darling Dahlias Mysteries, and the Cottage Tales of Beatrix Potter. Some of her recent titles include Widow’s Tears, Cat’s Claw, The Darling Dahlias and the Confederate Rose, and The Tale of Castle Cottage. She and her husband, Bill, coauthor a series of Victorian-Edwardian mysteries under the name Robin Paige, which includes such titles as Death at Glamis Castle and Death at Whitechapel.

Every woman should read this

It was a relief to read this book. Even if you only read the preface, even if you aren't considering leaving your job, you deserve to read this. Many of your unidentified frustrations with the way the world works are explained here. Dr. Albert is not at all anti-male. However, she shows how the long centuries of strong male influence have created the way our societies and organizations function. It helps you understand why you can't find peace in many careers. I like that she doesn't attack men, and I like that she says that women don't have to be like men in order to be equal in value. Since the "feminists" began speaking, women have felt like they have to adopt masculine values, attitudes, hairstyles, clothing, etc. to be accepted. It's time to accept women for their uniqueness, recognizing that each woman is an individual, and to value women's strengths, talents and contributions.
